Access Telehealth FAQs for Patients

What is a telehealth consult?

Telehealth video consultations are an alternative option to physical consultations and are conducted using Access Telehealth software, the internet and a webcam.

How can I have a telehealth video consultation with my specialist?

To have a telehealth video consultation with your specialist, you must be referred by your GP. Not all specialists offer telehealth video consultations – your GP will discuss options with you.

How much does it cost?

We are a mixed billing practice, to view our prices please click here.

Is it easy to use the telehealth software?

Yes. Our software is user friendly and you’ll be supported by our customer support team should you encounter any difficulties.

What are the advantages of a telehealth video consultation?

Telehealth consultations will reduce the waiting time to see a specialist, making it easier to get quality healthcare faster. And because you don’t have to leave your home, you’ll save both time and travel costs.

What happens during a telehealth video consultation appointment?

You and your care team, along with any family members will be at a computer screen to participate in the video consultation. The consult will then happen in much the same way as it would if you were in a consultation room.

Who will be present?

You and a support clinician from your GP practice. As with a face-to-face appointment, your partner, relative or friend may accompany you if you wish.

How private is the telehealth video consultation?

The same privacy and confidentiality requirements that apply to face-to-face consultations, also apply to telehealth video consultations.

Will the telehealth video consultation be recorded?

No. Consultations are not recorded by Access Telehealth, your care team, your GP or your specialist. You are also prohibited from recording the consultation

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

Telehealth video consultations do require a lot of coordination, so please try to keep your appointment time once it’s made. If you do need to cancel your appointment or are running late, then please let our operations team know ASAP by calling 1300 88 60 77 (option 2) OR emailing operations@accesstelehealth.com.au.

How should I prepare for my telehealth appointment?
  • Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow for preparation time.
  • Avoid wearing brightly patterned or reflective clothing as it may not show up well on camera.
